"Mist"
This is a photo series which I in the first instance made for a school project.
At a certain moment it didn't feel like a school project anymore but something I just loved working at.
It's a photo series about Alzheimer. My grandma and my boyfriends grandma both died because of this awful disease. I've experienced up close what this disease does to someone.
My mom works with people with Alzheimer so I decided to take a look at her job. I noticed things which I noted and then I linked an item to it.
The telephone stands for the communication. Through the years, the communication with people with Alzheimer increases a lot. To a certain point where communication is not possible anymore.
The teddybear stands for trust. A teddybear is a soft and lovable item. It's an item these people have known their whole life. It's something they can hold on to.
The clock stands for time. People with Alzheimer forget the time. They no longer have a sense of time. They only know the standard time of day. For example: when an old lady asked me what the time was, I said "it's 5 o'clock". After which she said "Oh then it's almost time for dinner!".
The LP stands for the music. Music is such an amazing thing for people with Alzheimer. When I was at my moms work they played some really old children songs and it really surprised me but some people actually started to sing along.
The shoes stand for my grandma. My grandma had the sort of Alzheimer where she would walk to her elderly home all the time. Sometimes we had to pick her up from the side of the road because she walked away again. This was really hard to see so this item was the hardest one to shoot.
All of the photos are made in an empty warehouse. The warehouse stands for the empty minds of the people. Most of the time it's a total blank. The background is out of focus, the item is in focus. The item is the only grip they have to these people, so that's why I made the decision to leave the background out of focus.
All together I'm so proud of this photo series. Mostly because I 100% stand behind this project. I thought out every single thing and it worked out amazing.
I love working with fineliner and bright colors. I made this illustration myself and started experimenting with different art techniques.
Recently I picked up an old hobby of mine, making collages. Just looking trough old magazines, searching for the best images, making weird collages is super fun.
